What is the Dragon Boat Festival?

  • The second largest cultural event next to Chinese New Year
  • Mythologically the Dragon symbolised the cloud, rain and water in the Chinese Zodiac and ruled the rivers and the lakes. Farmers worshiped the dragon by organising boat races to welcome the rainy season...

Where?

  • London Regatta Centre, Royal Albert Docks (by London City Airport)

What?

  • 40 teams of boats competing in heats culminating in a final race
  • Each boat 16 rowers and 1 drummer, a helmsman will be provided
  • Throughout the day the event will also feature
  • Main stage with lion dancing, kung fu, cultural performances and live music
  • Food, game stalls, market stalls and children's’ play area

The London Chinatown Chinese Association is organising a Chinese New Year photo competition. We are looking for photos that captivate the spirit and splendour of the London Chinese New Year celebrations, taken today 10th February 2008, in London’s Chinatown, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square.
